Preserved roses begin as real, fresh roses. They are carefully selected and then undergo a special preservation process.
Instead of continuing to live and wilt like a freshly cut flower, the rose is stabilised so that its shape, soft texture and natural appearance can be retained for an extended period of time.
This is what distinguishes preserved roses from artificial flowers: they are not made from fabric, plastic or paper. The petals and flower structure are those of a real rose.
The terms Infinity Roses, eternity roses and forever roses are also often used for this type of long-lasting rose. Throughout this guide, we use preserved roses as the general term and Infinity Roses for our own range of preserved rose designs.
Are Infinity Roses Real Roses?
Yes. Infinity Roses are real preserved roses.
Their natural origin is one of the reasons they look so different from artificial flowers. The individual shape of the bloom, the structure of the petals and the small variations from one rose to another remain visible.
Preservation simply allows the rose to retain its decorative appearance for much longer than an untreated fresh rose.
This makes an Infinity Rose particularly appealing when you want to give a real flower but would like the memory associated with it to last beyond just a few days.
How Are Preserved Roses Made?
The preservation process begins with carefully selected fresh roses.
During preservation, the natural moisture within the rose is replaced by a special preserving solution containing glycerine. The roses can also be coloured as part of the process, allowing both classic and more unusual shades to be created.
Once preservation is complete, the rose no longer behaves like a fresh-cut flower. It does not continue to grow and should not be placed in water.
The result is a genuine rose with much of the visual character and softness of a fresh bloom, but with a considerably longer decorative life.
How Long Do Preserved Roses Last?
With the right care, our preserved Infinity Roses can remain beautiful for up to three years.
Their exact lifespan depends on where and how they are displayed. Preserved roses are delicate natural products, and environmental conditions can affect their colour and texture over time.
For the best possible longevity:
- do not water them
- do not spray them with water
- keep them away from direct sunlight
- avoid humid environments
- keep them away from radiators, fireplaces and other heat sources
- display them indoors only
Preserved roses are designed for interior use. They are not suitable for balconies, terraces, gardens or other outdoor areas.
Why Don't Preserved Roses Need Water?
Fresh roses need water because their natural biological processes continue after they have been cut.
Preserved roses are different. Their natural moisture has already been replaced during the preservation process, so they no longer need to absorb water to retain their appearance.
In fact, water can damage preserved roses.
They should therefore never be placed in water, watered or misted. Damp cloths, floral sprays and flower food are also unnecessary and may shorten their decorative lifespan.
A dry location at normal room temperature is ideal.

Both are real roses, but their care requirements and longevity are very different.
